Solar options

Dear Rob,

Thanks. That sounds like a more positive approach, but did you contact Dow to ask about their interest in being part of the program? They have a guy responsible for NC who seems extremely competent, with a background in the actual development of the Dow product. Why not ask them directly? Dow has picked installers in the area already and is training them. In our case, if we proceed to install solar, we would ONLY go with Dow or something similar and I really do not think most people realize the economics of the Dow plan, especially for older roofs (which are a lot more favorable than what most people believe) and the option of having a fairly attractive roof at the end of the day instead of one that often looks like plumbing equipment left out to dry in the sun.

Cheers,

Terry

Hi Terry,

Thanks for asking about Dow solar shingles. A goal of our Solarize program is to reduce the costs to go solar. Part of these cost reductions come from standardized equipment so we can achieve group purchasing discounts. Accordingly, for the base package, we selected equipment that could be installed on a wide range of homes.

While I'm also a big fan of solar shingles, it is quite a bit more expensive -- both materials and installation -- especially for an existing roof. However, when our solar installer partners develop a proposal, they lay out a range of options for the homeowner to chose from. Most select the base package in order to garner the discounts, but I'll work with the installer partners about including an offer for solar shingles as a more aesthetically pleasing alternative.

Thanks for the feedback.

I have no financial interest in Dow or any of its installers, but it seems to me that you owe it to everyone to tell them there is an alternative.
