The Center for International Understanding | Global Heatmap

Well, I look forward to understanding this - my first impression is "so what?", as much as I am interested in the subject.

Public Transit In Triangle At Crossroads — North Carolina Public Radio WUNC

A good piece from WUNC. Rarely do I hear anything this comprehensive. It's just too bad that they don't provide a lot more connections from the story so that people can pursue the subject efficiently. (There is only one link.)
In any case, I really want to understand this better and the argument about whether it makes sense.
For me, the real task is not building the system; it is in convincing people to locate themselves to minimize time spent in their cars and to adapt their lives to public transit starting with the bus. Until we do both of those things en masse, we are not likely to find much success with simply expensive and maybe a bit faster options.

Long Island/In the Region — A Cautious Step Toward Growth - NYTimes.com

Why can't we get focused on doing the same thing for UNC and RTP - i.e., building around centers to which people first can walk and second can walk to buses that will take them where they want to go? We seem to be so timid about this. If the whole place was zoned right and the transportation committed, government could just get out of the way and let the building begin.

With Pope's closing, we have no other area TrueValue hardware stores, it appears.

Left turns

What are the accident records showing now that we have had the left turn on flashing yellow arrow for a while at least in Chapel Hill. I think it is a really risky option, and many from out of town will not be used to it. The proof, however, is in the number of accidents and what we learn about how they occurred.

Distractions are dangerous whether on feet or wheels. Pressing the policy, I think, is better than enacting rules. That applies to Chapel Hill, too.

In New York, Neglected Trees Prove Deadly - NYTimes.com

I wonder what sort of program and what sorts of problems we have with trees falling in Chapelboroham? I have noticed one or two along the path in Southern Village that look perilously close to falling. Are we supposed to call someone?

There is a great harware store story to be written about all of the changes this year and in recent times in hardware stores in Chapelboroham. These stores appear to have left Ace Harware and may now be independent. But not clear.....

The Herald-Sun - Chapel Hill stopped from enforcing cellphone ban

This is inspires little confidence in the management of Town of Chapel Hill affairs. There is no reason the Town had to wind up in this predicament. More important, the Town still ignores repeated suggestions to establish a firm policy against using an electronic device when driving an automobile as the starting point for all of this, with the members of the Town Council being the first to announce that they subscribe to the policy. So far, only one has said that he does.

Regional Airlines Squeezed by Flight Cutbacks and Higher Fares - NYTimes.com

I'd like to do a long story, interactive graphic, website, book, app - whatever it takes - to help people get more value and satisfaction flying into and out of RDU. Tips, ideas, practical information - such as how to go back and forth to the airport for $4. History and future in terms of flights and connections, etc. and service, options, security -- the whole works from the perspective of someone leaving from or arriving at RDU.

George's Towing and Recovery - Chapel Hill, NC

This is the outfit that has sued to prevent the new cell phone ordinance from going into effect in Chapel Hill. I just called them and confirmed this. And this is the law firm that is representing them. Here is what has happened. The fellow I reached on the phone refused to explain why they took the legal action that they did.

Cash mobs

Are we seeing any of these in Chapelboroham?

While waiting at CVS

Think of the totally wasted opportunity to deliver value and satisfaction instead of wasted time and frustration while waiting for prescriptions at CVS. Imagine that you could watch or listen to items of general health-related nature beyond the doctor's office videos - something tailored locally and updated regularly - a little CVS TV show.
It seems to me that it is a real missed opportunity to deliver value. Latest health news. ReadSpeaker could read the news out loud. Maybe from the New York Times?
Another thing I learned was that there is a price checker at CVS near or as part of the machine that will print out offers if you scan your CVS loyalty card.

Wouldn't it be neat?

Imagine that you shop in a Chapelboroham store and when you get home, there is an e-mail awaiting you with suggestions, comments, notes, etc relating to everything you just bought? What an added value that could be?

Lowes customer service

I went to Lowes the other day to look for two items for my wife and found neither; had to go to Harris-Teeter instead. Today, I needed something else and called first; they did not have that either. I asked the woman on the phone if they had sent anything to us frequent customers about the renovation in progress. No. She took down the three items and said she would look into that and pass on my suggestion to communicate more.

CVS customer service

I raced off to CVS on 15-501 south of Chapel Hill today, and found that an order phoned in for my wife after an early morning doctor's visit was there but had not been filled. The pharmacist, who knows me, said it would done in 10 mins. Perfect. I walked around just a little and wanted to do a price check on some suntan lotion and so went up front for just a moment to do that. Came back, the pharmacist looked at me - no one said anything. I stood for another 10-15 mins and no one said anything. The clerk asked if I was being helped and I said I was waiting. Finally, I looked at the "Waiters" tray and there was something in it. So I asked the clerk if that could be mine. It was but she took another customer and took forever ahead of me. I told her I was very disappointed and that she should have checked the tray and called out my name again. The pharmacist heard me and said he had but I was at the front of the store. I told him he knows me and he saw me standing there later and said nothing. So I stormed out and called the manager who seemed quite concerned about what I related.
