I still have a problem with the way our house is measured for tax purposes. Seems to me that we ought not be taxed for more than the habitable interior square footage - i.e., the space we can use, as opposed to walls, garages, etc.

We need to do a lot more than this. There ought to be pedestrian highways throughout the Town that are full stop crossings for motorists. Why shouldn't the presumption be reversed? If you are in a car, you stop. If you are walking, you have the right of way if on any marked crosswalk of any kind? Cars and drivers need to be trained to sense and stop when a pedestrian is about to cross.
